The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory and excessive heat watch for our area until 8 p.m. Tuesday. District 202 uses the following guidelines on days with extremely hot and or humid weather:
• Recess/PE outdoors if the heat index is 90 degrees or below
• Recess/PE indoors if the heat index is above 95 degrees
The heat index takes into account both air temperature and relative humidity. If the heat index is between 91 degrees and 94 degrees principals can decide if students stay inside or go outdoors.

High and middle school athletic directors will communicate any changes to their communities. Please also watch middle and high school social media accounts for updates.

“I enjoyed attending the week-long Generate Summer Camp at Wheaton College this past July,” said Noah Yui, Plainfield North High School senior.
Yui attended the service-oriented camp that allows youth to serve the local community during their stay thanks to the Plainfield School District 202 Foundation for Excellence Horizon Grant.
Yui’s youth group served at Wayside Cross Ministries, a homeless and addiction recovery center in Aurora.
“Areas of service for our group included detailing and cleaning cars, calling people who donated to the ministry to thank them for their support, making cards and posters for new arrivals at Wayside, ministering to people on the street, and speaking with residents of Wayside in small groups,” Yui said.
“Thank you, Plainfield School District 202 Foundation for Excellence, for supporting this summer enrichment experience,” he added.
The Foundation awarded 2024 Horizon Grants to six students to help pay for summer learning enrichment experiences that broaden their academic horizons and explore areas of interest.

“I am so grateful for the Plainfield School District 202 Foundation for Excellence and the Horizon Grant for the opportunity to learn and live hip hop this summer,” said Ava Florez, Plainfield North High School senior.
Florez attended the “Illinois Summer Youth Music Hip-Hop” camp at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in July thanks to the Horizon Grant.
“During the week I worked with experienced music hip hop artists and like-minded people my age to create a hip hop song from scratch which we performed at the end of the week in the Canopy Club,” Florez said.
She also attended master classes and listened to lectures from musical experts.
“We learned a lot not just about making music but the history behind it and stories about the people who do it,” she said. “It was a truly incredible experience.”

Freshman Orientation!!!
Welcome Tigers!!

Check out this amazing self-portrait painted by Plainfield North High School incoming senior Liam McManaman.
He crafted this artwork while attending the FAA Summer Intensive program at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign last month.
McManaman attended the immersive, weeklong program thanks to receiving a Horizon Grant from the Plainfield School District 202 Foundation for Excellence.
“It was wonderful to be given a chance to experience a sense of college and what the future may hold, and I am incredibly appreciative of the chance I was given as the intensive was one of the most exciting parts of my summer,” McManaman said.
Participants were also able to enjoy evening activities such as bowling, movies on the Quad, exploring campus, scavenger hunts, and museum trips, plus a special session at the school’s Japan House.
“The program was so much more exciting because it went beyond just making art on campus,” McManaman said. “It was truly a joy!”
